Tin Pan Alley

Written by John and Ching Yee Smithback

Years ago, an area in New York City housing the offices of popular music publishers was referred to as Tin Pan Alley. That was probably because some people thousght popular music sounded like noise made by pounding on tin pans! Whatever the reason, the name has stayed, but now it refers to the entire music industry. "I wonder what kind stayed, but now it refers to the entire music industry. "I wonder what kind of music Tin Pan Alley will come up with next year?" Bianca asked.
